Karāpiro Dam

Lake Karāpiro is the site of Horahora Power Station, the first large-scale power station in New Zealand built in 1913. In 1947, Karāpiro Power Station was built as a replacement. Lake Karāpiro was formed to power the new station and in the process submerged the old Horahora Power Station.
