  • Many resources on the Science Learning Hub explore ideas relating to carbon1 and its uses, processes, reactions and how it cycles within and around Earth.

This online PD session for secondary teachers, recorded on 26 March 2015, models ways some of these resources can be used, with a focus on level 6 science concepts leading to assessment using Achievement Standard 90953.

This PLD session was based on the legacy Science Learning Hub however all the resources are still available on the new-look Science Learning Hub site.

    SLH and the carbon cycle

A recorded PD session for secondary teachers modelling ways Science Learning Hub resources can support teaching and learning about carbon and the carbon cycle.

Great session thank you! We appreciate it!

A wide range and number of resources are identified for their links to the carbon cycle2 processes of addition to the atmosphere3, removal from the atmosphere and both long-term and short-term storage processes for carbon on Earth.

This literacy strategy, Carbon cycle – three-level reading guide, could be used to support students to access information in the Carbon cycle article.

    1. carbon: A non-metal element (C). It is a key component of living things.
    2. carbon cycle: The process by which carbon passes through the natural world.
    3. atmosphere: 1. The layer of gas around the Earth. 2. (atm) A non-SI unit of pressure equivalent to 101.325 kPa.
