Come along to an evening of fascinating stories – a journey to explore the backcountry to watch rock wrens, majestic kauri, out to the farmland and back onto the streets of Dunedin.

Enjoy five fantastic films produced by students of the University of Otago’s Department of Science Communication, home of the world’s leading postgraduate programme for science and natural history filmmaking, and as part of the New Zealand International Science Festival.

The evening's lineup includes:

  • Rhapsody for a Rock Wren by Lauren Schaer. Explore the human-nature connection through a filmmaker’s relationship with a tiny bird.
  • Soft Gold by Jacqui Lynch. Discover the goat renaissance that is taking New Zealand by the horns.
  • Trip Advisor: Drugs in Dunedin by Janic Gorman. Embark on a journey with a student as he educates himself on the effects of MDMA.
  • Kauri K-9s by Wen Qing Ong. Go behind the scenes with Pip and Mawhai, conservation heroes in the making.
  • The Passing by Elizabeth Vanderburg. Family memories weave together an intergenerational understanding of our natural world.
