Welcome to our collection of resources from the Physics made simple – waves webinar.

This is just a sample of what is available on the Science Learning Hub. More can be found in the waves concept here: https://www.sciencelearn.org.nz/concepts/waves
And in the topics Sound: https://www.sciencelearn.org.nz/topics/sound and Light and colour: https://www.sciencelearn.org.nz/topics/light-and-colour

If you have read the wave basics article and need more information then this article is the place to go.

Activity idea: Get students to create a brainstorm of all the different kinds of waves they can think of. Add ideas as their learning grows.

Once students have gained some background information, you could ask them to try grouping the different types of waves and discuss why they have grouped them this way.

Discuss how scientists group waves (e.g. by the direction of movement or amplitude of the wave).

Consider simplifying this activity by just asking students to demonstrate a simple sound wave to start with. Then as you introduce new concepts, ask students to represent these ideas too and discuss what works well.

A summative task could include this way of demonstrating their knowledge about waves. This article: https://www.sciencelearn.org.nz/... Expand note
